Origins of iCal Sync Now Up-To-Date

While assisting a client one weekend with a routine hard drive upgrade, I was asked if I knew how to get Now Up-To-Date to sync with iCal (Jan 19, 2008). The client mentioned that they had recently purchased an iPhone and they had years of data stored in Now Up-To-Date. While I had never used or even heard of Now Up-To-Date I thought this would be an easy tasking as most main stream calendar programs generally can export and import tab delimitated and csv files.

Well no time like the present to start building a solution, so I started off with a simple AppleScript based application that did just the basics. The application started by simple copying events from Now Up-To-Date into iCal (Feb 2, 2008). Soon after getting the basics developed, I started work on the more detailed to include a start date for the import, and 24 hour auto sync. of by this time my colleagues whom I started East Coast Silicon with decided that we should promote the product and get this new tool to the world.

iCal Sync Now Up-To-Date version 1.0 officially stepped out into the world on March 4, 2008. Since then there have been a number of modification request and I have been working on them as my busy schedule allows. The first update version 1.1 was released one week later on March 11, 2008 with a shortly follow up of the version 1.11 on March 14, 2008. During this time features were added to fully ensure OS X 10.4 compatibility, multiple selections for Now Up-To-Date calendars, and the ground work for bi-directional sync.
